Let It Go. Give It to God

I’ve always had excellent end-of-year evaluations. That is until 2022 when I received a needs improvement rating. While my manager and I were not on the best terms, I had worked really hard and felt it was an unfair rating. First, my rating should have been based on the prior year’s performance and I had only been with this team for 3 months. It was my manager’s responsibility to reach out to my former manager and that was not done. Second, I was new to the organization and due to organizational changes, I had not been trained. To provide the best support to my manager and my team, I proactively acquired many skills, earning the respect of my team and our cross-functional partners.

These things seemingly did not matter to my manager and he concluded that he needed another assistant and I needed to find another Director to support. I launched several unsuccessful appeals to HR and though I was left feeling humiliated and dejected, I resolved that I would continue. Then my husband gave me life-changing advice. He advised me to “Let it go and give it to God”. Goodness, that was so hard to do, but I decided to do exactly what he said.

In prayer, I shared my hurt feelings with the Lord but resigned that I would take the rating and leave the rest in his hands. I also realized that letting go meant that I needed to forgive my manager, which I did. Soon after being transferred to another Director and team, I was told that I needed to continue to support my former manager due to a hiring issue. As a result, I would not be able to fully  transfer for six weeks. Again, my husband gave me some great advice, “Just do it Tahnee, and do it with a smile”. So, I did and after 6 weeks, I was able to completely transfer.

About 2 months later, I received a call from HR. After investigation, they changed my rating – from needs improvement to high-performing. I was elated. I had a great rating and was working for a great team. The outcome was remarkable and I am still in awe of the goodness of the Lord. His name is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10)

Friends, unfair treatment happens, but do not count God out. He is on our side. He will fight our battle but we must be willing to turn it over to Him. God loves everyone and wants all to be saved. So, just as He has mercy on us, He will have mercy on those who hurt us. During this trial I realized a few important things:

  1. How other people treat us is beyond our control, but how  we respond is our responsibility.
  2. Forgiveness is a command, not an option. If we want God’s forgiveness, we must be willing to forgive those who have wronged us.
  3. It is wise to listen to the godly counsel of others, especially loved ones.

Friends, do you know the Lord Jesus? If you don’t, then you are missing out. In Him there is peace, joy, and salvation. It is not too late. Just pray and ask God to save you. Romans 10:9 says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Salvation is a free gift from God. Jesus did it all at the cross. All you need to do is open your heart to Him. He will come in and with Him comes all that He is.

Friends, I love you but most importantly God loves you! I pray that you come to know him today. If you do, I would love to hear about it. Connect with me at [email protected]
