Only the Pure in Heart
Working with people from all sorts of backgrounds has been such a gift. Some have incredible, vast life experiences, having traveled all over and tried their hand at every kind of sport or hobby imaginable. During our casual chats by the water cooler, we’d share stories about our vacations, our families, and other parts of our lives. But I remember so many times when the conversation would turn to things I knew absolutely nothing about. Instead of just being honest, I’d pretend I understood.
One morning during my devotional time, God’s Word really spoke to my heart. The message was all about having a pure heart and a genuine spirit. The author shared that only the pure in heart will see God. (Matthew 5:8) The word “pure” means sincere, genuine, blameless. And I hadn’t been genuine at all. There I was, day after day, just listening, nodding, and sometimes even faking a comment, all because I didn’t want anyone to know I felt clueless.
I spent years believing my self-worth came from my knowledge and life experiences. It was a lie that took a long time to unravel. My true value, I’ve since learned, is a gift from God. My life’s unique journey is not a weakness but a wonder. A journey that many wanted to hear about. This truth set me free, enabling me to honestly say, “I don’t know,” without fear. The surprising result was that my colleagues didn’t judge me; they were thrilled to share their knowledge, which made our conversations much more engaging and fascinating.
Friends, Jesus knew his worth was not determined by his origin. He was born and raised in the obscure Jewish villages, Bethlehem and Nazareth, a background that made the social elite dismiss him. Even when he performed miracles and spoke with divine wisdom, they doubted. Yet, his confidence was not external. Today, Nazareth is no longer an insignificant place; it’s known to the world because of his presence there, proving that divine purpose can elevate even the most humble beginnings.
So, friends, let’s just be ourselves. God won’t help us be anyone else, but He will help us become the very best version of who we are. As Scripture says, “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son” (Romans 8:29). He wants to shape us into the image of Jesus—loving, compassionate, humble, forgiving, patient, and yes, genuine. The more we immerse ourselves in His Word, the more we are transformed. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
It is my hope and prayer that you will “Be Yourself”. Need help? Ask God to help you? He is ready, willing, and able to help you discover and be the person that He made you to be.
I would love to hear about your journey. Send me a message at [email protected] or go to our contact us page. May God richly bless you!

I do this, too! Thank you, Holy Spirit, for the conviction.
